As most of you are aware by now, we have changed our ‘mass mailing’ over from various distribution lists that people had on their computers to the Google Groups format which allows much smoother communication.  I want to bring to your attention how to manage your group subscriptions in that you can decide how you want to receive the group emails. I would recommend leaving the regular school mails from the lists such as allstaff and academicstaff, juniorstaff, seniorstaff, etc well alone as if someone sends an email to these lists, generally you need to get it straight away.  However, there are lists like the ‘smous’ mailing list, which you might not have subscribed to because you find it annoying getting ‘irrelevant’ emails throughout the day.  If you haven’t subscribed to this list, you might also be missing out on the news that there is something for sale which might interest you, so there is a way around the annoyance and that is to choose to receive the mails in ‘digest’ format.

1. Go to www.gmail.com and log in with your @stjohnsdsg.com email address and password.  Click on “Groups” at the top and click on “My Groups” in the main part of the window.
2. Click on the group you want to manage (Smous in this example - https://groups.google.com/a/stjohnsdsg.com/forum/?hl=en&fromgroups#!forum/smous).
3. If it pops up a change of settings to put in a nickname, just choose “Keep my original settings”.
4. Look for the “membership and email settings” button at the top of the list of all emails for the group.  Click on it.
5. If you need to put in a nickname, then do so.  Otherwise look for the button that allows you to choose “Send daily summaries”.  Save and close.  You will now get only one email a day with all the messages from that list.
